The Wesley Foundation University of Minnesota is pleased to announce the Rev. Frank Schaefer will be the featured speaker at the Wesley Foundation Celebration event to be held on Tuesday evening, July 21 at Hennepin Avenue United Methodist Church. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a reception, which will continue until 6:30 p.m. The dinner and program will follow and conclude at 8:30 p.m. There will be an optional organ concert in the sanctuary at 5:30 p.m. Pastor Cody Nielsen, the Executive Director of the Wesley Foundation and the students who are a part of the Wesley ministry will be available to greet guests and share why this ministry is important to them.
Rev. Schaefer served as an ordained minister for twenty years in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the UMC. He lost his credentials after officiating at his son’s same-sex marriage. Subsequently he became a nation-wide speaker and activist. He is the author of Defrocked, How a Father’s Act of Love Shook the United Methodist Church. His credentials were eventually reinstated by the UMC’s highest court. Today Pastor Frank continues to advocate for human rights while also working in a UMC parish in Isla Vista, California.
The organist for the concert will be Andrew Hackett, who currently serves as organist for Hennepin Avenue UMC. He received a BA in organ performance from the University of St. Thomas, and his MM in organ performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music. The cost of the event is $15.00 per person. You will have an opportunity to contribute to the Wesley ministry. For reservations, please contact Paula Gaboury at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 952-220-2946.
